National Gardens Scheme ‘SELBORNE’ at East WorldhamOur garden has opened under the National Gardens Scheme (Yellow Book) for the last ten years. This charity raises money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Crossroads, Help the Hospices, Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society, The National Trust and other charities and last year raised over £30 million. In the last 12 months we have raised £1600 for the National Gardens Scheme as well as £225 for East Worldham Church and £200 for the Tafara Mission, a Catholic charity helping two very large townships outside Harare in Zimbabwe. We are grateful for the help given when we open from Ferris and Margaret Whidborne, Margaret Betsworth, Wally and Betty Martin, Christine, Joyce and Muriel Bone without whom we could not hold these events. We have a half acre mature cottage-style garden with an orchard planted mostly in 1958 of over 20 named varieties mostly apple. We also have mixed herbaceous borders, a fruit and vegetable area, greenhouses, containers, a conservatory and metal and stone sculpture from Zimbabwe. ![]() 'Selborne' garden in East Worldham When we open our garden, we also offer a bookstall for those not too interested in gardening. We also have a sandpit and garden quizzes for children. For further details of our garden and all the other gardens in the scheme, visit the National Gardens Scheme website, www.ngs.org.uk Please see the calendar for the opening dates and times.
