Walks

The countryside around the Worldham Parish offers some of the finest walks in the area. Most notable is the Hangers Way.

Other walks include East Worldham and Water lane, East Worldham, Wyck and Oakhanger and the Malmstone escarpment. These walks and 38 others  can be found in  booklet ‘The Walks Near Alton’, published by Bill Andrews.

The Natural England website – http://www.naturalengland.org/ contains a huge amount of information regarding the management of the countryside.  In addition, the following link http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/information_for/countryside_visitors/default.aspx is a starting point for the walker. There are also information regarding horse riding and cycling.

The parish council appointted Robin and Caroline Wilson-Webb as representatives to attend to any matters relating to footpaths in the parish. Any problems re stiles, tracks, vegitation are directed through them and on to the appropriate department at either Hants County Council or EHDC for them to take on and manage.  The progress through either of these departments is slow due to the lack of funds and people becoming available to make the repairs or replace broken stiles etc. Therefore we are hoping to set up a volenteer group from within the parish to carry out basic routine maintenance, under the supervision of the relevant authority. A meeting took place with the Area Countryside Access Manager who identified the type of work that the volenteer group could undertake. During the winter it is planned to put together a volenteer group to help with the number of exciting projects. One of which is the stiles around St Mary’s church yard which leads to Binsted, they are difficult to negotiate and does not enable dogs to proceed through. The parish has gratefully provided the funds to replace this stile and others with kissing gates! In addition, the stile adjacent to the old school will also be replaced with a kissing gate. This will enable everybody to enjoy a circular walk around the village with out having to climb any stiles. This is an example of the type of work we wish to achieve in the near future to improve country access, whilst also respecting landowners concerns.

More information, regarding the forming of the volenteer group will be posted here and on the village  notice board. However anybody wishing to register an interest please contact Robin or Caroline on 142082712.

The walks in and around East Worldham can be found posted on the notice board next to the village hall and St Mary’s church, East Worldham.
